Part 2
The week may be called “holy” because our Christian tradition wants us to pay particular attention to the cast of characters who appear in this week’s readings. In a short, 7-day period, they condense much of what the gospels address the other 51 weeks of the year. In a sense, these readings might be considered as worthy of special, intense reflection. And so the Jewish Passover tradition evolved into rich liturgical observances among Christians.

The story told in this week’s readings is OUR story–the story of each one of us–and the Church highlights this part of the gospel-story so that we might benefit from it. If we seriously read the story reported this week in the gospel–we might “take away” God’s very personal message to us. And that message might come to us via one or several of the characters who played some role in what unfolded long ago in Jerusalem.
