Bring What You Have – It Is Enough
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
The Word of God for this Sunday reminds us of a beautiful truth:
God can do amazing things
with what we place in His hands.
Every one of us has been blessed with something to give. It may be our time, our prayers, our kindness, our encouragement, or simply our faithful presence. Whatever it is, God can use it to bless others.
In the Gospel (Matthew 14:13–21), Jesus had just received the sad news that His cousin, John the Baptist, had died. He went looking for a quiet place, but the crowds followed Him because they needed Him.
When Jesus saw them, His heart was filled with compassion. He welcomed them, healed those who were sick, and stayed with them throughout the day.
As evening came, the disciples noticed that the people were hungry. They suggested sending everyone away to find food.
But Jesus had a different plan.
He said, “Give them some food yourselves.”
The disciples looked at what they had, just five loaves of bread and two fish. It didn’t seem like much.
Jesus simply said, “Bring them to me.”
He blessed the bread, broke it, and gave it back to the disciples to share.
The miracle happened.
Everyone ate.
Everyone was satisfied.
And there were twelve baskets of food left over.
What a wonderful lesson for all of us.
Jesus didn’t ask the disciples for more than they had. He simply asked them to bring what they had and trust Him.
He asks the same of us today.
Perhaps you can offer a smile to someone who is having a hard day.
Perhaps you can make a phone call to someone who is lonely.
Perhaps you can spend a few quiet moments in prayer for your family or a neighbor.
Perhaps you can welcome a new face at church or lend a helping hand when someone needs it.
These may seem like small things, but in God’s hands, small acts of love become great blessings. As St. Teresa of Calcutta reminded us, “Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.”
St. Paul reminds us in the reading (Romans 8:35, 37–39) that nothing can separate us from the love of Christ. God’s love is always with us. It strengthens us, comforts us, and gives us hope every day.
The prophet Isaiah (55:1–3) also gives us a joyful invitation: “Come to the Lord.” God freely offers His mercy, His grace, and His love to everyone who comes to Him.
What a wonderful gift we have in our faith.
As we gather around the Lord’s table (Sacred Altar), we receive the Bread of Life, Jesus Himself. He nourishes us so that we can go into the world and share His love with others.
This week, don’t worry about whether your gift is big or small.
Simply bring what you have.
Bring your prayers.
Bring your kindness.
Bring your faith.
Bring your heart.
Place it all in the hands of Jesus.
He will bless it, multiply it, and use it in ways you may never see.
May we leave Mass today filled with gratitude, renewed with hope, and ready to share God’s love wherever we go.
Three Questions to Think About This Week:
1. What is one small gift you can offer Jesus this week? It could be your time, your prayers, your kindness, or your help to someone else.
2. Who in your life needs a little care or encouragement? Is there someone you can visit, call, pray for, or simply spend time with?
3. How can you trust Jesus more this week? Instead of saying, “I don’t have enough,” ask Him to use what you do have.
“Miss no single opportunity of making some small sacrifice, here by a smiling look, there by a kindly word.” ~ St. Thérèse of Lisieux
May God bless you and your families.
